This book tells the story of Catalina de Erauso, who after leaving the convent of San Sebastin, posed as a man and left for the Americas, where she achieved the rank of lieutenant. Catalina killed many men in duels and confrontations, among them one brother, and amorous infatuations with various women. She was detained in Peru and sentenced to death after one of her customary brawls. When it was learned she was a virgin, the bishop for the region pardoned her. On her return to Spain, she was received by the king, who honored her military rank and authorized her to use a man's name. The Pope also gave her permission to pose as a man. Juan Antonio Mateos Lozada naci en la ciudad de Mxico el 24 de junio de 1831. Hizo estudios primarios all y despus ingres en el Instituto de Toluca, en 1847. All entabl una estrecha amistad con Ignacio Manuel Altamirano, con quien escribi un peridico satrico, de corte liberal, llamado Los Papachos, en el cual atacaban a los conservadores del Instituto. Esta publicacin provoc que fueran expulsados del colegio en el mes de julio de 1852. Juan Antonio Mateos fue uno de los escritores ms populares de Mxico durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Escribi en peridicos y revistas y public tambin novelas y obras teatrales. Muri el 29 de diciembre de 1913 en la ciudad de Mxico.
