This sneaky, cheeky bit of artistry looks innocent enough at first glance. Fan through the pages and you're treated to beautiful color paintings of summer scenes in thirteen Cape Cod communities. The title and the captions apparently refer to tourists, beginning with cars streaming over the Bourne Bridge: ?They arrive every summer, passing over the bridges in droves.? The next image, in Sandwich, where a girl admires ducks on a millpond, continues the theme: ?Coming from far away, they feel as though they've landed in a different world.? Penta is describing summer people, right? Well, yes and no. By the third or fourth spread, quite another ?invasion? comes into focus. It takes a few pages…

Mark Penta was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, and spent every summer of his life in Falmouth on Cape Cod. A graduate of the University of Hartford Art School, he has taught drawing and cartooning at the Rhode Island School of Design, Dean College, and Mass Bay College. He has drawn caricatures of Alan Dershowitz and John Kenneth Galbraith, as well as of thousands of tourists at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston. Penta's work has appeared in Boston's iTabi newspapers and Dell Magazine's iAlfred Hitchcock and Asimovi magazines. He has designed billboard art as well as six book covers for T.M. Murphy's iBelltown Mysteryi series. He lives in Framingham, Massachusetts.
