Chester "Chet" Zoeller was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1941. He was raised in the shadow of Churchill Downs, and was within just a few short blocks of many of the largest distilleries of the day. The Yellowstone, Seagrams, Hill & Hill, and Stitzel-Weller distilleries were all within smelling distance. The process of making bourbon whiskey was very much a part of the community in which he grew up.Mr. Zoeller attended the University of Kentucky, obtained his undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky University, and his law degree from the University of Louisville. After practicing law for a number of years, he owned and operated a telecommunications firm in Savannah, Georgia. He then… returned to Louisville, and in 1998 established the McLain & Kyne Distillery Company with his son, Trey. They produced three brands of bourbon -- Jefferson's Reserve, Sam Houston, and Jefferson's. Becoming interested in the whiskey business in Kentucky, he began researching the subject, which has resulted in the important information now found in his book, Bourbon in Kentucky.
