The National Archives is the UK government's official archive, containing a thousand years of history from the Domesday Book to the present day. The 170km of records held at Kew in south-west London range from parchment and paper scrolls through to recently created digital files and archived websites. They contain not only famous documents - the last telegram from the Titanic or the 'Jack the Ripper' files - but also the stories of ordinary voices - shot down aircrews, impassioned divorce trials, the service histories of WW1'Tommies' and much more.
