Loni Kaplan lives in New Port Richey, Florida with her four sons. A homeschool mom believing in her children's natural desire to learn, Kaplan unschooled and followed each child's passions. Hoping to share her philosophy with others, she taught her unique self-developed high-school level social-studies classes at local co-ops. In 2010, after an unexplained bout of vertigo, she was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. Through four months of treatment and with support from friends and family, she continued to homeschool, trying to maintain as much normalcy as possible. Kaplan's children went to school a year after her illness began, but her family will always be homeschoolers at heart.… Prior to having children, Kaplan was a high school guidance counselor. Currently, Kaplan's primary endeavor is volunteering for Profoundly Gifted Retreat, a national organization which supports and enriches the lives of profoundly gifted children and their families. She enjoys contra dancing and trivia.
