David Miles is currently Chief Archaeologist at English Heritage. Previously the Director of Oxford Archaeological Unit, he was an Associate Professor of Stanford University and is a Research Fellow of the Institute of Archaeology, Oxford and a fellow of Kellogg College, Oxford. His particular interests are the history of the English landscape and the archaeology of the first millennium AD. He has worked in many areas of England and also France, Greece, Israel, Africa and the Americas. He is the author and co-author of many books and articles on archaeology including An Introduction to Archaeology, An Atlas of Archaeology and The Countryside of Roman Britain. He was a columnist for the… Oxford Mail and Times for ten years and frequently broadcasts on radio and TV (The Today Programme, Chronicle, Tomorrow�s World). He is on the Board of the Cultural Heritage National Training Organisation and is a member of the Society of Antiquaries.
