Phillip Medhurst was born in Leicester, U.K. in 1948. He studied at Wadham College, Oxford before being ordained to the Anglican priesthood in 1973. After his son Oliver's accident in 1982 Phillip relinquished holy orders and pursued a career in teaching, latterly in the field of special education. He has now retired and divides his time between homes in Lancashire and the West Midlands.
