About the authorKaren McKinney was an elementary educator on a military post in Colorado for 30 years and also at a special education center in Ohio for 1. Her professional experience includes teaching grades three through six and also special education. She piloted several programs for the district including the District's first multi-grade classroom. Karen wrote the majority of her own curriculum. She has presented at several conferencesKaren is also a nationally trained Six+1-Trait writing model trainer and has traveled around the state helping to train other school districts in this method.She was listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1996, 2004, 2005 and 2006 as well as being… included in Who's Who in North America 2009-2010 and has also been awarded the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award for her district. Karen also has been nominated for the Disney American Teacher Awards twice. She holds a BA in Elementary Education and Special Education from West Liberty State University in West Virginia and an MA in Teaching Integrated Sciences from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.She spends the majority of her time doing service work in her community. Karen is a member of the United Methodist Women as well as being the church secretary. She is a member of the local food pantry which serves the surrounding community with food and also services to keep on electricity and helps pay cut of fees for those who are having troublesKaren is a member of the East Ohio District's executive board for the UMW and serves as the Spiritual Growth Director. She also tutors local children who are having difficulties at school.Karen has started her own company God's Inspiration and has developed a line of greeting cards and other items.
