Frank was born in Sioux City Iowa in 1928 and graduated from St. Paul's, a Christian Brothers boys school in Covington Louisian in 1945. After college as a Navy V5 student at Tulane and Louisiana Lafayette.After flight training, he was designated a Midshipman Naval Aviator in 1949. He made 6 Navy cruises with 317 carrier landings, 61 at night flying the Douglas AD Skyraider off of 13 Carriers from 1948 to 1955.He flew the McDonnell F4H Phantom Mach 2 jet in 1959 as an electronic engineering pilot, He flew radar missions,fired missiles and madehigh altitude first flights and was elected into The Society of Experimental Test Pilots in 1964. In 1965, he joined Air America and flew night and… photo-recce missions in South East Asia.After flying 14,184 hours in 45 aircraft, he hungup his goggles and gloves in 1985. He said he set no records but did what he dreamed of doing, all of his working life.In 2001 at 73, he started taking humming bird pictures after feeding them for 20 years.They almost immediately were landing on his fingers and one landed on his head, He said they knew he was an old pilot and he knew they were God's greatest flyers.He has taken many thousands pictures of the year-round resident humming birds and a few of the visiting hummers with his small plam sized digital cameras.
