Dr. Robert F. Barkley made a lasting impact on the dental community with his innovative philosophy of preventive dentistry. Born in Table Grove, Illinois in 1930, Bob attended Western Illinois University followed by Northwestern Dental School. After opening his practice in 1957, he proceeded to study and lecture on the preventive concept he formulated, speaking throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Japan. Bob served as Chairman of the Dental Health Committee for the AADPA in addition to positions held in the Illinois State Dental Society and the U.S. Army. He was named Distinguished Lecturer by the U.S. Navy Dental Corps and received numerous awards for outstanding success in… professional, vocational and community endeavors. Bob died in a plane crash August 13, 1977, while returning home from a speaking engagement. His contribution to the dental world will be forever remembered.
