Description:

First published as the Longman companion to Victorian fiction. An encyclopedic reference to both well- and lesser-known Victorian fiction. The majority of entries cover Victorian writers, with another major group giving full synopses of individual novels. Other entries detail periodicals or genres, such as Punch or "penny dreadfuls". Alphabetical format obviates the need for a subject index. Contains indices of proper names and pseudonyms, and maiden and married names. Especially useful for the discovery of obscure gems. Acidic paper. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
