Description:

George has a house made from a big cardboard box, and he says that no one else at the playground can come in. Not Lindy, because George's house "isn't, for girls," nor Freddie, because it "isn't for small people." Sophie can't come in because, George says, "This house isn't for people with glasses." But when George leaves his house for a moment, everyone piles in, and on his return, George gets a taste of his own medicine. Aided by Bob Graham's striking illustrations of an urban playground, Michael Rosen tells the tale of a little boy who makes a big discovery--that letting everyone into his playhouse is a lot more fun than keeping them out.

Michael Rosen started writing as a teenager, when his mother needed some poems for Radio programs she was making. While at college, he wrote a play which was staged at the Royal Court theatre in London. Rosen's first book was published in 1974, and he is one of Britain's leading children's poets. Michael Rosen launched the National Year of Literacy project, which encouraged children to help produce an Anthology to be used during the Literacy Hour in primary schools. Children ages 4-11 were invited to submit poems and illustrations featuring their favorite tree. Rosen also led the final judging sessions to decide which submissions would be included.

Author and illustrator, Bob Graham was born in 1942 in Sydney, Australia. He attended Julian Ashton Art School where he studied drawing and painting. His first picture book Pete and Roland was published in 1981. He has written and illustrated over 25 books including "Crusher Is Coming," "Jethro Byrd," "Rose Meets Mr. Wintergarten" and "The Adventures of Charlotte and Henry." His works have earned him numerous awards and recognition.
