Antiques writer Ralph M. Kovel was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 20, 1920. He attended Ohio State University and served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a food broker, owned a salad-dressing company, owned a shrimp farm in the Bahamas, and became a vice president at Sara Lee. Together, he and his wife Terry H. Kovel have written almost 100 guides to antiques and collectibles including Kovels' Antiques and Collectibles Price List, Kovels' American Silver Marks, Kovels' Bottles Price List, and Kovels' Bid, Buy and Sell Online. They have also written a nationally syndicated column since 1955 and published a monthly newsletter… entitled Kovels on Antiques and Collectibles. He died due to complications of a broken hip on August 28, 2008 at the age of 88.
