He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and rescue operations in New Orleans during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Hatfield is a descendant of Alexander Hatfield, who served in the 12th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry (US) and was also a relative of Devil Anse Hatfield.
