This volume publishes and illustrates over 1,000 English coins from the Norman Conquest to the coinage reform of Edward I. They are spread over 16 museums, ranging from the National Museums of Scotland to civic museums such as Ayr, Eyemouth and Dunfermline. The most outstanding collection is that of Dr William Hunter (1718-83) in Glasgow University's Hunterian Museum.
