George Gmelch is Professor of Anthropology at Union College. His many books include In the Ballpark: The Working Lives of Baseball People; The Parish Behind God's Back: History and Culture in Rural Barbados (with Sharon Gmelch); and Double Passage: The Lives of Caribbean Migrants, Abroad and Back Home. He lives in Slingerlands, New York.
