Pat Spurlock has been interested in family history since the age of fourteen when her grandmother first discussed with her the entries in the Spurlock family Bible. Her Tennessee roots go back over 225 years. She also spent 17 years in installment loans and trust banking, working daily with local attorneys where she learned the ends and outs of legal research. She was a licensed hairdresser and salon owner for twelve years and continued her education in her spare time, obtaining a four-year degree in forensic psychology and deviant behavior. As editor of the Spurlock Family Quarterly from 1988 until 2005, and as a full-time writer from 1993-2007, her research specialties have included… Melungeons, Indians of the middle-southeastern United States, early Tennessee families, and solving research problems using indirect evidence. She is now retired and spends time with her dogs and hometown friends, who are politely called "the Golden Girls."
