Marjorie N. Cowan has always been interested in social issues and social justice. She grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast during the civil rights era and saw firsthand the climate of terror that springs from hatred and ignorance.Cowan received her bachelor's degree in sociology and community relations and her master's degree in education guidance and counseling. It was during her master's internship that Cowan became interested in guiding students toward academic success. She spent twenty-five years as a director of academic advising. She also more recently earned a professional writing certificate from Kennesaw State University.Cowan has lived in Atlanta, Georgia, since the early… eighties. She is a proud wife, mother, and grandmother. Her large family and Islamic faith have helped her through her darkest moments, including the tragic death of her son in 2003.
