Donna Schuurman speaks regularly in national venues in her role as Executive Director of The Dougy Center for Grieving Children, the first peer grief support program in te world for children, teens, and families. The Center's pioneering work has been featured on ABC's 20/20, Good Morning America, World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, and in print media including Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, People, Parenting, Redbook, and others. Over 80 centers modeled on The Dougy Center's program have sprouted through the U.S., Canada, and most recently, Japan, following trainings by The Dougy Center staff. Schuurman has directed The Dougy Center for seven years, and seves on the Board of… Directors of the Association for Death Education and Counseling, the largest professional association of educators, counselors, and thanatologists in the country. She speaks frequently at conferences around the country, and conducts trainings and interventions across the U.S. on issues relating to children and grief.
