Giving Back to Students

TextbookRush had the privilege of teaming up with one of our affiliates, K12 Book Source, to donate more than 1,200 books to three Central Ohio Schools; Binns Elementary, Trevitt Elementary and Burroughs Elementary.

“We knew the books we had were valuable books that would help kids learn to read. So we contacted The 2nd & 7 Foundation, located in Columbus, Ohio, to see if it had a need for our elementary level reading books. The foundation connected us with several Central Ohio Elementary schools who could use the books,” said Mark Davenport, Director of K12 Book Source.

First stop: Binn’s Elementary. We dropped off about six boxes full of first through fifth grade reading level books to be dispersed among different classrooms for small group reading lessons. When talking to Principal Joel Grant, he explained to us that books read during these reading lessons are at the child’s specific reading level to help each child grow in their literacy skills.

Second stop: Trevitt Elementary School, where we dropped off several boxes of first through sixth grade reading level books. We were told the books would be given to several classroom teachers. The teachers then will have the option to keep and use the books in the classroom or send a book home with a student.

Final stop: Burroughs Elementary. We had the pleasure of meeting Nicole Richmond, a fourth grade reading teacher and her class! She told us she was excited to receive these books because she plans to use them in her 45 minute small group guided reading time with her students. It is a time where the teacher is able to read with a student at his/her specific reading level.

It was a blast visiting some of the Columbus Elementary schools, meeting some of the staff members and meeting the kids who will benefit from the books. We are so pleased that the extra books we had in our warehouse are now on the shelves of several classrooms in Columbus, helping students grow in their reading skills.

We look forward to doing something like this again soon! It’s a rewarding feeling to donate – we recommend you try it if you haven’t already.
