Verna Angela Russell nee Albury was born at Governor Harbour, Eleuthera. She is the fourth of fourteen children (six are living) born to Mr. Preston H. Albury (deceased), a former Member of Parliament and Mrs. Amy Naomi Albury nee Demeritte."Angela," as she is called, received her early edu- cation at the Governor's Harbour All Age School. She then moved into New Providence where she attended the Southern Junior and Senior Schoolsheaded by the late R. N. Sawyer and Carlton Francis respectively. She later attended the Government High School 1961-1966.Upon her graduation, Angela attended Bahamas Teachers' College where she trained for her lifelong vocation of teaching for two years. She is… now into her 41st year in the profession where she has risen from teacher to prin- cipal and at present serves in this position at Thelma Gibson Primary School.Angela and her entire family are staunch Anglicans worshipping at St. Barnabas Church. She has been involved in many organizations within her church as well as the community. These include Sunday School Teacher Vestry Member, Voice of the Church Representative, Auxillary Member, Altar Guild Member and Girls' Brigade Captain.She had also risen up to the position of Commissioner of Girls' Brigade as well as president of the Girls' Brigade Council. Angela also represented Girls' Brigade when the Ministry of Youth as well as the Woman's Desk first came into being. In the early 1990's she served on the Youth Advisory Board of the Ministry of Youth for a few years. Angela was honored by the Bahamas Government for her service to the youth on the 25th Anniversary of the country's independence.She is married to Mr. Barrett Addison Russell. The couple has two children, Christina and Barrett Jr.
