When we adopted our daughters from China, I learned of the Chinese legend of the Red Thread of Fate. The belief goes something like this....a red string ties together those who are destined to meet each other, in a certain situation, or help each other in a certain way. The people connected by the red thread are destined to be together, regardless of time, place, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but will never break. One of the wonderful things about Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet's love story in Pride and Prejudice, for me, is that it epitomizes this saying. Jane Austen seems to magnetically pull the characters together through twists of fate and… circumstance. Over the years, I have come to love variations on their story. Changing the cricumstances, and twisting the events which pull them apart and together, makes the red thread connection more apparent. Wanting to try my hand at changing the circumstances of their love story, I could think of no better way to do so than by donating a portion of the proceeds to the children in China who are waiting for their red thread to connect them to their Forever Families. I hope you enjoy my work, but I also hope you will enjoy impacting their lives in this way.
