Description:
Preface There are many books, videos, and products you can buy online now to "help" you potty train your child. These methods promise success in time frames ranging from 3 days to 3 months. As a mother of 4 boys, with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from University of Connecticut, I feel comfortable in saying that there is a method that will work for everyone, but not one particular method that will work for every child. With this in mind, I have written a short booklet that details one method that has worked for my four boys (and 3 other children so far, whose parents have tried it). It should be clear, that… like "quick weight loss" programs that promise results to one and all, a certain amount of skepticism is prudent, especially when larger sums of money are involved. I am not promising results guaranteed, but for $3.99, you will have a 6 chapter booklet, written in easy to understand, concise language, that will aid you in the potty-training of your child. If it works, great- you are done with diapers. If it doesn't work for your family, you have lost little financially, but have gained insight. (There are some greeting cards that cost more than this booklet.) Chapter one discusses the definitions of potty-training, reasons to potty train, a brief review of academic studies of potty training, gender differences, and goals of the booklet. Chapter two covers issues surrounding when to begin potty training, such as language knowledge, consistency, new siblings, and multiples. Chapter three talks about what you actually need, in order to start potty training, with a discussion of whether the need is real or not. Chapter four is the chapter that provides a detailed time line of what to do, when, and how. I am fully expecting many people to skip right over to this chapter. It is written so that you can do so. However, the other chapters are both important and informative, especially Chapter 3. Chapter five covers a number of common problems and issues that arise, like constipation and power struggles. And Chapter 6 goes over night-time potty training, regressing versus learning more, and it also provides a summary. You may be wondering why I took the time to write this booklet, and why the price is so low. Quite simply, I enjoy writing, I believe that a booklet should be affordable, and one of my children's teachers suggested I write it, since she had never seen a child potty-train as happily and quickly as mine did. I feel that potty-training is stressful for parents and for children, so if my experience and knowledge can assist any family in making the transition from diapers to underwear easier, I am more than happy to have helped.
