Christopher Ryan is a psychologist, teacher and author. He received a BA in English and American literature from Hobart College in 1984 and an MA and PhD in research psychology at Saybrook University in 2004. In between his degrees he traveled the world and worked several jobs like gutting salmon in Alaska and teaching English to prostitutes in Bangkok. Along the way he pursued his doctorate in psychology analyzing the prehistoric roots of human sexuality. From this research he penned the book Sex at Dawn: The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality with Cacilda Jetha, MD. He also lectures at the University of Barcelona Medical School.
