Rogene Robbins started out with a booth at a mid-summer street fair in Kansas, with no sunscreen to protect her and not one person buying a single item from her. After several "miserable years" on the craft show circuit, she met Robert Robbins, with whom she founded and has run craft businesses of all kinds, including clothing and jewelry design. Their first retail store, which they opened more than ten years ago, broke even in the first year and employed twelve craftspeople at peak times. The couple now lives in Ralston, Nebraska, where Rogene writes and teaches about the art and craft business and creates her own brands of quilts.
