En Fran�ais:Alain Fournier est n� en France � Lyon, et a grandi � Bourg-en-Bresse. Il est sorti de l'INSA (Institut national des sciences appliqu�es) de Lyon avec un dipl�me en g�nie chimique, avant d'obtenir une ma�trise en chimie � l'Universit� de Montr�al. Pendant plusieurs ann�es, il a enseign� la chimie au c�gep d'Ahuntsic � Montr�al. Alain a ensuite entrepris une carri�re en infographie. Il a d'abord pass� son doctorat � l'Universit� du Texas � Dallas, avant de se joindre comme professeur au d�partement d'informatique de l'Universit� de Toronto, puis � celui de l'Universit� de Colombie Britannique. Il a �t� largement reconnu pour… ses nombreuses contributions scientifiques et visionnaires en infographie, dont ses travaux sur les ph�nom�nes naturels et les mod�les d'�clairage. Il a �t� un mentor, un coll�gue et un ami pour beaucoup. Alain a �t� compagnon de vie d'Adrienne Drobnies et p�re d'Ariel Fournier, qui toutes deux ont eu le privil�ge de partager leur vie avec lui, et l'ont beaucoup aim�.Les po�mes de ce recueil donnent une id�e de la grandeur, l'�loquence et l'unicit� d'Alain. Alain est d�c�d� d'un cancer en ao�t 2000.In English:Alain Fournier was born in Lyon, France and grew up in Bourg-en-Bresse. He graduated from INSA with a degree in chemical engineering. He then moved to Montreal where he received his master's degree in chemistry from the Universit� de Montreal. He taught for several years at CEGEP Ahuntsic before going to the University of Texas at Dallas where he received a PhD in Computer Science. Alain was then a professor of computer science at the University of Toronto and later the University of British Columbia. He was widely recognized and appreciated for his many contributions to the field of computer graphics, including his work in modeling natural phenomena and in illumination models. He was an influential mentor, colleague, and friend to many. Alain was a constant companion to Adrienne Drobnies and father to Ariel Fournier, both of whom were privileged to share their lives with him and loved him greatly.The poems in this book give a hint of the grandeur, eloquence and uniqueness of Alain's being.
