The book describes the numerous risks faced by the project and the lessons learned that have never before been written about or discussed in any length despite the huge volume of news articles and reports that have been published on the Big Dig. The book will include new insights based on excerpts of interviews with project engineers, executive oversight commission officials, and core managers and a new perspective on the challenges and accomplishments of the Big Dig.? There are books that focus on the historical development of megaprojects, urban theory and design, and the political implications in getting projects approved, but there are no books that describe the reality of the day to day management of the Big Dig from a project manager's perspective as well as the management of the complex risks faced by the nation's largest megaproject.? Written by the former Deputy Counsel and Risk Manager for the Big Dig from 1996 to 2005, Virginia Greiman served as a core manager on the 12-member project executive team responsible for the daily operations of the project and had an opportunity to participate first-hand in implementing the project's challenges and goals during its peak years of construction.
