John W. Servos received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. He teaches the history of science and medicine at Amherst College, where he is the Anson D. Morse Professor of History. His book, Physical Chemistry from Ostwald to Pauling: The Making of a Science in America (Princeton University Press, 1990), was awarded the Pfizer Prize of the History of Science Society in 1991.
