A stunning new gift edition of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize winner in poetry Featuring a CD of the poems read by the author Natasha Tretheweys elegant, elegiac third collection, Native Guard, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2007. This deeply personal volume brings together two legacies of the Deep South. It is a moving testimonial to the Louisiana Native Guards, a Black regiment who played a forgotten role in the Civil War. At the same time, the poems also pay loving tribute to the memory of the authors mother, whose marriage to a white man in the 1960s was still illegal in her native Mississippi. Included in this beautifully redesigned gift edition is an audio CD of the poems read by the author-a lovely gift for any enthusiast of finely crafted verse.

NATASHA TRETHEWEY is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University. She was the 2012 Poet Laureate of the United States. Native Guard, her third collection of poetry, received the 2007 Pulitzer Prize. Beyond Katrina: A Meditation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast was published in 2010. She lives in Atlanta.
