Mary Hansen, a mathematics teacher at Independence High School, Independence, Kansas, teaches algebra and geometry. While teaching in Texas and North Carolina, Ms. Hansen was active in mathematics teachers staff development. She received her B.A. and M.S. degrees from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
