Description:

This textbook presents an introduction to the fundamental concepts of continuous-time (CT) and discrete-time (DT) signals and systems, treating them separately in a pedagogical and self-contained manner. Emphasis is on the basic signal processing principles, with underlying concepts illustrated using practical examples from (multimedia) communications, signal processing and bioinformatics. Following introductory chapters on signals and systems, the text is separated into two parts. Parts I and II cover the theories, techniques, and applications for CT-, and DT-, signals and systems, respectively. The focus is principally on linear time invariant (LTI) systems. Accompanying the title is a CD-ROM containing MATLAB code for examples in the text, audio clips, images, and two signal animations. With over 300 illustrations, 285 worked examples and 385 homework problems, this text will be of interest to advanced undergraduates in electrical and computer engineering. Further resources for this title, including solutions, are available online at www.cambridge.org/9780521854559.
