Jamil M. Abun-Nasr is emeritus professor of Islamic studies at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. He is the author of a number of books, including A History of the Maghrib in the Islamic Periodand The Tijaniyya: A Sufi Order in the Modern World, and is coeditor of Law, Society, and National Identity in Africa.
