Thomas Lux was born in Northampton, Massachusetts on December 10, 1946. He graduated from Emerson College in Boston. He was a member of the writing faculty at Sarah Lawrence College for 25 years before becoming the Bourne Professor of Poetry at Georgia Tech in 2001. He was also the director of the McEver Visiting Writers program at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the director of Poetry@Tech. His first collection of poetry, Memory's Handgrenade, was published in 1972. His other collections of poetry include To the Left of Time, New and Selected Poems of Thomas Lux: 1975-1995, God Particles, Child Made of Sand, The Street of Clocks, and From the Southland.
