Richard Benson was born on a small farm near Doncasater in 1966, After a childhood spent crashing tractors, he left home to become a journalist, and has since written for various newspapers and magazines. THE FARM is his first book and became an overnight success when it was shortlisted by Richard & Judy's Book Club. Richard Benson became The Dean of the Yale University School of Art and held that position for for ten years from 1996-2006. He was also a professor of photography there for the last 20, and an internationally renowned expert on photographic printing. He has won MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellowships, grants from the NEA, and many other awards. He has printed numerous… distinguished photography books, including such classics as "The Works of Atget", Lee Friedlander's "The American Monument", and Irving Penn's "Passage". Benson is the author of several books about photography, including The Printed Picture - the catalog and text of an exhibition of the same name at The Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2008.
