Producing for TV and Video: A Real-World Approach provides a comprehenisve look at the role of the "Producer" in television and broadcast media. Every project has a Producer at its core who provides a wide array of creative, technical, financial, and interpersonal skills. The author's 20+ years as a professional broadcaster and producer gives her a unique perspective of television producion from the perspective of a producer (as opposed to that of a director). The Producer's role can be multi-dimensional, influential, and often lucrative. Written especially for new producers and students aiming to become producers, this book gives an overview including everything from the "big picture" to the small details of what to expect in this demanding profession. Updated interviews from seasoned television producers & industry professionals share professional practices and personal odysseys that provide readers with a window into the hidden world of the televsion industry. The interviewees represent a wide selection of people who produce prime-time programming, reality shows, comedy, drama, news, children's shows, music videos, as well as other non-broadcast promotional and corporate videos. This type of real-world insight is not to be found in other books on producing. This new edition has been updated to reflect developments in new media, delivery systems, technology, the expansion of the global marketplace, and the legal parameters of new delivery systems, fair use boundaries, and copyrighting of internet material. * Comprehensive coverage of the nuanced and multi-dimensional role of a Producer presented in a clear and engaging writing style * Traces a project from conception to a finished piece of broadcast quality * Interviews with estabilished industry professionals offers readers real-world insight into the world of television production

I was born and raised in New Jersey; and I am New Jerseyan through and through, wherever life may take me.For Christmas one year my parents bought me a Lord of the Rings computer game. I started playing it and was so inspired by the story that I put the game aside and did not touch it again until I had read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Those books sparked within me a love of reading in general and a love of fantasy literature in particular. My favorite genre, however, is philosophy, particularly as it relates to ethics and metaphysics. This, together with my love of the fantastic, is the inspiration for my writing. In my reading I have seen how ideas affect history. For this reason it has been important to me to not simply tell a story, but to show how the characters interact with different ideologies and ethical dilemmas. I want my readers to at least understand, even if they do not sympathize with, the villains of the story.
