Delores Feeken-Schmidt grew up as a military dependent, travelling and living around the world. Through her travels she experienced not only beautiful destinations, but also the psychology of people in different cultures and environments. As she thought about the advantages of travel and wished her children could have had a similar background, the seed of Isabel's Journey took root. When her mother successfully completed her goal of visiting all seven continents and brought virtual trips home to her family through her travel stories, fact met fiction, and Isabel became more than just an idle dream. In November 2010 Delores joined the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenge to… write 50,000 words in 30 days. Isabel and her daughters were born and quickly took over the manuscript, leaving the author with the responsibility to pen the story as they told it. 50,604 words later the preliminary novel was done and ready for considerable editing. With a lifetime of experiences to draw from, Delores looks at everything with an eye toward writing about it. She has been writing since she was a teenager. Looking back at early endeavors, she shakes her head and understands why they were rejected, but admires that girl who took a chance. She won awards for some of her early writing and was proud to be named Poet Laureate of her Senior Class of Western High School in Anaheim, California. Delores currently lives near Lincoln, NE with her husband, two independent cats and two adoring dogs. She is a member of the Nebraska Writers' Guild, and is (over the moon) excited to announce Isabel's Journey as her first published novel.
