Will Arnett--whose performance on the late, lamented TV show Arrested Development was sheer genius--seeks a movie vehicle that will similarly serve his unique comic flavor. His latest effort is The Brothers Solomon, a freewheeling festival of absurdity about two brothers--John (Arnett) and Dean Solomon (Will Forte, Saturday Night Live)--who were raised by their father (Lee Majors, The Six Million Dollar Man) in polar isolation. As a result, their social skills are questionable, but they make up for it with their relentlessly positive outlook. When their father falls into a coma, they decide to honor his wish to have a grandchild and set out to find mates. The escapades that follow have the shape of humor, but are not, for the most part, exactly funny, though they are often oddly compelling--or at least make you curious as to what could possibly come next. Kristen Wiig, hysterically funny in a bit part in Knocked Up, is largely wasted in a straight role as the surrogate mother the brothers end up hiring. Malin Akerman (The Heartbreak Kid) plays a helpful yet snooty neighbor; her scene in a bikini will be essential viewing for her more lust-ridden fans. Directed by Bob Odenkirk of Mr. Show fame, who directed the similarly peculiar Let's Go to Prison. --Bret Fetzer
