The experiments attempted to advance and compare the effects of two commonly used techniques in neuroscience - permanent and reversible damage to a brain region. Data demonstrated the the outcome of perirhinal cortex damage is a function of the nature of stimuli and the extent of the lesion. Experimental data also supports the anatomical notion that perirhinal cortex is at the nexus of declarative and non-declarative memory components.
