The Allaqi-Heiani ophiolitic belt in SE Egypt is the northernmost arc-arc suture in the Arabian Nubian Shield. This suture separates the ca. 750 Ma South Eastern Desert terrane in the north from the ca. 830-720 Ma Gabgaba terrane to its south. Previous structural studies have proposed conflicting structural-tectonic models. On the other hand, the exact timing and nature of tectonic events are still matters of debate. The present work is an interesting contribution to the geological setting, structural history and tectonic interpretation of the central part of the Allaqi-Heiani belt.
