Orange Lady is a poetry collection that recounts my experience as an immigrant growing up in South Central Los Angeles, where my family sold oranges on the street in order to survive. In adulthood, I explore different facets of grief from not belonging in certain spaces, longing for a country I left long ago, and the loss of my father. The title itself stems from a moment when I was young, and a classmate called me, "Orange Lady" in front of the whole school after seeing me selling oranges. Although that moment initially caused me immense shame, it later motivated me to become more than my circumstances.
