Jacquelyn Crenshawbegan writing in 1983 because she saw in here own city of Wichita Kansas, there was a fi ght in the midst of the local community. A fi ght for social, economic, and educational equality, therefore she became a community activist with the NAACP city chapter and became the editor and producer of her own community newsletter entitled, "Th e Gift." Jacquelyn sought out to deliver poems of encouragement and Love to the Wichita community and other media means such as Rainbow Coalition, Black Entertainment Television and notably respected Coretta Scott King. Her hunger and thirst to reach out to a deteriorating society became her number one priority. Purpose and love for all… mankind is the ultimate theme of her writings, encouraging all to do their part to uplift and demonstrate the power of equality and justice for all.
