The illustrator, Amanda Perlyn, is the recipient of numerous awards, including Seventeen/Cover Girl Volunteerism Award, R. David Thomas Child Advocate of the Year Award, J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award, Daily Point of Light Award, Allstate Good Hands Volunteer Award, and Voice of Democracy Award. In addition, a story about her was published in Jackie Waldman?s book, The Courage to Give.
Marilyn Perlyn, a graduate of Northwestern University, is a children's author and the creator of The OCHO Project: Read for a Need. Marilyn's three children were involved in service projects as youngsters and have each received local, state, and national recognition for their efforts to reach out and help others. Marilyn is a frequent speaker at character educatin conferences. She is on the Superintendent's Service-Learning District Advisory Council for Miani-Dade County Public Schools.
