Anthony Horton was born in New York City and grew up in a children's group home and foster homes after his parents abandoned him. He spent most of his adult life homeless and living in the subway's tunnels. This lifestyle became the subject of a graphic novel that he co-wrote with Youme Landowne. Pitch Black was published in 2008. He also taught gymnastics and art classes for homeless people at Jan Hus Presbyterian Church on the Upper East Side. He died in a subway fire on February 5, 2012 at the age of 43.
