Associate Professor of History and Director of the Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity at Connecticut College, Leo J. Garofalo researches market and ritual activities in Andean cities and seafaring by black Europeans from Iberia. He co-edited: Documenting Latin America: Gender, Race, and Empire; Afro-Latino Voices: Narratives from the Early Modern Ibero-Atlantic World, 15501812; and Mas all� de la dominaci�n y la resistencia. Currently he is writing a book on Asian slaves and black sailors, soldiers, and traders in the early Atlantic world.
