Joseph Thomas is the USNA Class of 1961 Chair and Distinguished Professor of Leadership Education in the Naval Academy Leadership Education and Development Division. He is a retired Marine and past Director of the John A. Lejeune Leadership Institute at Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia. He earned masters' degrees from the US Army War College and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, his PhD in Leadership Education and Curriculum Development from George Mason University, and post-doctoral training at the Brookings Institution.
