Victor Turner was born in Scotland and educated in England. He began his career as a research officer with the Rhodes-Livingstone Institute in northern Rhodesia. Best known for his ethnographic studies of ritual and social process among the Ndembu, Turner also produced significant theoretical insights about rites of passage, the psychology of healing, conflict management, the importance of drama and play, and the theory of symbolic interpretation. He spent much of his career at universities in the United States and was among the leading figures in the turn to symbolic interpretation that marked American anthropology during the 1960s and 1970s.Michael Reis has been writing for ten years… about architecture and design, with an emphasis on the use of natural stone. His work has appeared in a variety of architectural trade magazines, and he is the editorial director of Contemporary Stone & Tile Design, a quarterly publication for the design community. He lives in Ringwood, New Jersey.
Jennifer Adams is a writer and editor. She graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle and currently works as senior editor for Gibbs Smith Publishing. She is the author of the popular children's board book series, BabyLit. The series is based on classic works of fiction and uses those stories to illustrate counting, colors, opposites, weather and fashion. Adams currently lives in Salt Lake City.
