Description:

This concise but revealing book gives a glimpse inside the relatively unexplored thought world of the Jonangpa School of Tibetan Buddhism. This seminal text from that tradition situates the doctrine of other-emptiness within the tenet systems of the four traditional schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

Born in New Zealand, Taranatha trained as a doctor, primarily in London. Recovery from alcoholism loosed long-suppressed spiritual energy which eventually found a home with the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order. Following retirement, he pursued full-time involvement with Buddhism. He now lives in a men's community in Auckland and teaches at the Auckland Buddhist Centre.

Jeffrey Hopkins is Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia.
