Donald W. Smitherman was born on a Colorado homestead on April 13, 1914. He spent most of his growing up years on a farm in Kansas working alongside of his father and two brothers. Don served in the United States army during World War II and was a teacher in Kansas until he received his PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1954. He worked as a clinical psychologist specializing in marriage counseling until his retirement in 1978. Now an avid golfer and ballroom dancer, Don, (99) lives with his "partner for life" in Sun City, Arizona. 100 and Holding: My Hundred Year Journey is the story of Don's life written over a period of twenty years. It chronicles Don's personal… and professional history as well as the history of the magnificent Elk Park Ranch located near Estes Park, Colorado. The later part of this autobiography was originally published in 1999 as Elk Park Ranch: Human Interest Stories.
