Mayra Ottati Stern got the idea of writing all the "Alex's Bilingual Children's Book Series" because she could not find that many bilingual children's books for kids ages 3 to 8 in the area where she lives. Many times she found herself reading a book in English to her son and then translating it into Spanish so he would practice both languages. Other times, she found herself reading a book in Spanish and translating it into English so her son would understand. She also found that it was hard to find a bilingual book with a good message at the end of the story. Mayra Ottati Stern was born in Caracas, Venezuela.
