Professor Gunther has published over 100 articles in the field of theoretical physics. His specialty has been the field of condensed matter physics, which focuses on fundamental phenomena such as superconductivity, magnetism, liquid crystals, and phase transitions (e.g. boiling, freezing and melting). He has recently been interested in the physics field of quantum measurement and computation. He has taught a course on the Physics of Music and Color since 1971, and is a serious amateur musician.
